Skalnaté pleso (Rocky Mountain-saddle) is situated in the altitude of 1751 m in the Lomnická dolina (Lomnická Valley), directly under the southern slopes of Lomnické sties and originally it was called Lomnické pleso. Tatranská magistrála passes through Skalnaté pleso in the sections Hrebieniok, Lomnická vyhladka, sedlo pod Svišťovkou and Brnčalova chata. Skalnaté pleso is considered the best skiing terrain in the High Tatras. The best places for this sport include the slope below Lomnické sedlo (Lomnické Saddle) and in Františská Mulde. Lomnická sedlo is also known for the giant slalom course, a traditional race for the Grand Prize of Slovakia.
