OBS setup
OBS Studio is the free broadcasting software most creators use. Below we'll go through the settings you need to connect OBS to LookCam and stream in good quality — without unnecessary theory.
Server and stream key
In OBS settings, open the Stream section and choose Custom as the service. Enter the server URL and your stream key. You'll find both in the LookCam creator dashboard — copy them from there instead of typing manually. Treat your stream key like a password: don't share it with anyone and don't show it on screen during a broadcast. If it ever leaks, generate a new one in the creator dashboard.
Bitrate and resolution
Match your settings to your upload bandwidth. A safe rule of thumb is to use at most about 70–80% of your available upload, leaving headroom to avoid dropped frames. A higher bitrate means a sharper picture but requires a more stable connection. If you're just starting out, a reasonable starting point is 720p at a smooth frame rate; move to a higher resolution only once your stream is stable.
Scenes and sources
In OBS you build your picture from scenes, and each scene is made up of sources — a camera, screen or game capture, images, and overlays. To start, one simple scene is enough: camera plus a capture of whatever you're showing. Over time you'll add more scenes (e.g. “break”, “starting soon”) and switch between them during the broadcast.
Testing before you go live
Before your first broadcast, do a short test: check audio levels, whether the camera is in focus, and whether the picture doesn't stutter during motion. It's better to catch problems in a rehearsal than in front of viewers. Once everything works, you can start broadcasting and move on to your first stream.
